PSC to NYSERDA: Great Job; your funding is cut

Meeting of the Public Service Commission
May 2, 2025

On April 24, 2025 the New York Public Service Commission (PSC) met in Albany. After congratulating NYSERDA on the great work done to accelerate the adoption of solar energy in New York, the PSC voted unanimously to reduce the funding for the NY-Sun program. Because NYSERDA expects to reach the Governor’s goal of 10 GW (10 gigawatts or 10,000 MW) of additional solar capacity under budget by about $416 million, the PSC decided to cut the pool of funds that pays for solar rebates to only $150 million. The result: solar rebates in New York are now expected to be fully depleted within a month or two at the most. In other words, time is very quickly running out to participate in the NY-Sun solar rebate program. For a 500kW solar project, waiting without acting means leaving $300,000 on the table somewhere in Albany. See more on our FAQ page.
